THRESHOLD Chase Mode Overview
Survive Eli and Scrow: hearing rules, batteries, hiding, and what each map wants from you.
What Chase Mode is
Chase Mode is THRESHOLD’s replayable horror loop. Where Story Episode 1 DESPAIR walks you through Blox Street 12 once, Chase throws you into pursuit maps with objectives, cash/XP payouts, perk progression, and leaderboards. The BETA currently highlights two headline maps: Eli and Scrow. Both share the signature rule—the entity can hear your microphone and your chat—but their win conditions differ hard.
This overview teaches shared systems. For step-by-step objectives use Eli keys, batteries & radar and Beat Scrow. New to the game? Start with Getting Started.
Shared rules that kill new lobbies
Hearing mechanic
If you speak, laugh, scream for content, or type loudly in chat, you are broadcasting a beacon. Competitive habits:
- Default to muted hardware during searches.
- Callouts only on push-to-talk in under one second (“two west”) then silence.
- Never argue in text chat mid-chase.
- Streamers should warn viewers that open-mic runs are intentionally harder.
Flashlight, batteries, and information tools
Darkness is a resource tax. Your flashlight eats power; batteries restore it; radar (especially on Eli) consumes a meaningful battery budget when players describe needing multiple cells to bring it online. Light management ranks as a meta skill on our tier list alongside mic discipline.
Hiding
Closets, corners, and broken line-of-sight windows work only if you are quiet. Hiding while Discord is open is cosplay. If the entity is near:
- Kill sprint.
- Kill mic.
- Kill chat.
- Kill flashlight if the beam is painting your hiding spot.
- Wait for audio to leave before looting again.
Objectives beat sightseeing
Every second of tourist walking is a second the chase can collapse. Learn spawn logic from the map guides, then run purposeful routes.
Map comparison: Eli vs Scrow
| Eli | Scrow | |
|---|---|---|
| Fantasy | Maintenance / large pursuit space | Mall chase with social bait |
| Main objective | Find 3 maintenance keys to open the exit gate | Collect pages → enter RNG keypad password |
| Key items | Keys, batteries, radar | Pages, keypad, movement perks |
| RNG feel | Key/battery locations vary; map feels large | Page count/order and password digits vary per run |
| Standout perk | Any survival QoL helps; radar matters | Godspeed (+50% walk/sprint) dominates times |
| Social hazard | Mic aggro in long corridors | Scrow lures the monster; friendly dialogue is a trap |
| Leaderboard vibe | Longer solos; duos help cover ground | Sub-minute solos possible with lucky pages + Godspeed |
Pick Eli to learn batteries and quiet looting. Pick Scrow when you want RNG adrenaline and speed tech.
Eli Chase in brief
You are hunting three maintenance keys scattered through a large layout. Along the way, vacuum batteries so the flashlight and radar stay alive. Radar turns uncertain searches into directed ones once powered—players commonly reference a three-battery cost mindset. The exit gate does not care about Scrow-style digit codes; without all three keys you are not leaving.
Death patterns on Eli:
- Exploring on empty batteries
- Calling key locations over open mic
- Tunneling on radar pings without watching flanks
- Splitting so far in public lobbies that nobody can trade batteries

Scrow Chase in brief
Scrow’s mall asks you to gather pages that expose password digits, then punch the code into a keypad. The password is per-run RNG—useless as a “THRESHOLD code” on the Codes Hub. Food court and shop loops hide pages; movement speed decides whether you finish before the lure-and-chase spiral ends you.
Godspeed is the defining perk: roughly +50% walk and +50% sprint. Speedrunners chain page paths with Godspeed to threaten sub-minute solos when RNG is kind. Scrow’s VO will insist the place is safe. It is not. Detailed bait callouts and keypad flow live in Beat Scrow.
Party sizes and roles
- Solo: Best for learning audio cues; Scrow solos are popular for time attacks.
- Duo: Best default for Eli’s large footprint—one looter, one watcher.
- Squad: Fun, but mic chaos multiplies. Enforce mute rules in lobby.
Role split that works:
- Scout — movement + page/key hunting
- Support — batteries, door holding, quiet radar checks
- Anchor — keypad entry / gate ready, minimal talking
Progression loop
Successful escapes grant cash and XP. Spend early rewards on power that shortens future runs—especially Godspeed—before cosmetics. Leaderboards reward clean play; scripted speed from the Scripts Hub may work technically but risks bans and voids bragging rights.
There are still no known promo codes as of October 2026. Group like/join gifts are the social freebies; Chase skill is the real printer.
Practice plan (one evening)
- Two muted Eli runs focused only on battery uptime.
- One Eli run where you attempt radar after banking batteries.
- Read the Eli guide and fix the spawn wings you keep skipping.
- Two Scrow runs accepting RNG resets.
- Equip Godspeed; attempt a serious Scrow time.
- Review deaths: mic, light, or objective ignorance? Fix the top cause.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about Chase Mode, Story DESPAIR, codes, and escapes.
What is the difference between Eli and Scrow?
Eli needs three maintenance keys plus battery/radar management on a large map. Scrow needs pages for a per-run RNG keypad password in a mall layout.
Can the Chase entity hear text chat too?
Yes. Treat chat like voice—noise can give you away. Mute both when hiding.
Is Godspeed required?
Not required to clear, but it is the S-tier perk for Scrow times and strongly recommended once you can unlock it.
Why did a password from TikTok not work?
Scrow codes are random each run. Only pages in your lobby define your keypad digits.
Should beginners start Eli or Scrow?
Start Eli to learn batteries and quiet looting, then move to Scrow for RNG pages and Godspeed routes.
