THRESHOLD It Can Hear You

Mic and chat aggro rules for THRESHOLD Chase Mode and Story — how silence keeps you alive.

THRESHOLD Mic & Chat Hearing Guide

Why hearing is the whole game

THRESHOLD’s Roblox BETA by Reskioat (Fe & Zy) markets one sentence harder than any perk: the threat can hear you. Experience text still reads “It can hear YOU” next to Story Episode 1 and Chase Mode. Viral clips exist because players forget that Roblox voice chat and typed chat are broadcast channels into the hunt loop—not private Discord sidebands.

This page is the deep dive. For mode overviews see Chase Mode. For first-hour habits see Getting Started. Entity personalities live on Eli and Scrow.

What “hearing” actually covers

Community play and creator framing agree on two input channels:

  1. Microphone / Roblox voice chat — speaking, laughing, screaming for content, music bleed, Discord speakers next to the mic.
  2. Text chat — typing mid-chase, shouting coordinates in all caps, spamming “WHERE.”

Treat both as aggro beacons. If you would not yell that sentence while hiding in a closet in a real horror movie, do not send it into THRESHOLD.

What hearing is not

  • It is not a free pass to invent lore about mind-reading inventory.
  • It does not replace objective design: you still need keys on Eli and pages on Scrow.
  • It is not disabled just because Story Mode feels quieter—bad mic habits transfer into Chase and wipe lobbies.

Competitive mute habits

Solo

  • Hardware mute or Roblox voice off by default for the whole Chase.
  • Unmute only in the lobby to coordinate loadouts (Godspeed, who holds keypad).
  • If you stream, use a separate capture path so your audience hears you while the game does not—or accept that open-mic streams are death compilations.

Duo / squad

  • Push-to-talk only. Short bursts: “page three food court,” then mute.
  • One designated caller for Scrow digits; everyone else stays silent.
  • Ban lobby music through voice. Kick repeat offenders.
  • Never debate strategy while the entity is already on someone—type after the wipe.

Story Episode 1 [DESPAIR]

Story leans less on hearing-meta than Chase, but headphones still matter for jumpscares and VO. Keep the mic muted unless you are recording a reaction video on purpose. Episode 1 is under rework (creator-confirmed during BETA growth); VO lines may change, silence habits should not.

English voice replies and language notes

Some non-English creators note that entity voice reactions often feel English-biased even when the lobby speaks another language. That is a BETA AI/voice-pipeline quirk, not a reason to talk more. Silence still wins. If you play with friends in FR/DE/ES/PT, keep the same mute rules—language does not grant stealth.

Common wipe patterns (fix these first)

  1. Open Discord + open Roblox mic — your friends’ jokes become entity bait.
  2. Calling every footstep — narration helps viewers, not survivors.
  3. Chat panic — “HELP LEFT HALL” while crouched.
  4. Victory scream early — celebrating a key pickup before the gate.
  5. Trusting Scrow’s friendly lines while unmuted — combine lure VO with mic noise and you gift the round away. Read Scrow and Scrow Chase.

How hearing interacts with other systems

  • Flashlight / batteries (Eli): Light discipline and mute discipline stack. A lit, loud player is a beacon twice over—see Eli keys.
  • Godspeed: Speed does not cancel audio aggro. Fast + loud still dies; fast + quiet clears. Tier list.
  • Hiding spots: Closets and corners only work if you stop broadcasting.
  • Radar: Radar helps locate threats; it does not forgive a scream.

Practice drill (ten minutes)

  1. Join Chase → Eli with mic hardware-muted.
  2. Complete one battery + key loop without unmuting.
  3. Intentionally unmute for three seconds in a safe room, then mute—notice how tense the habit feels.
  4. Switch to Scrow; clear pages with only keypad digits spoken once.
  5. Review deaths: if any were “I was talking,” restart the drill before blaming RNG.

Watch the embedded clip

The mid-page video shows how quickly voice interaction becomes the scare. Use it as a warning, not a challenge to provoke the entity harder.

THRESHOLD is a hearing-driven horror BETA. Master mute before you master routes—every other guide on this wiki assumes you already did.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Chase Mode, Story DESPAIR, codes, and escapes.

Does the entity really hear my microphone?

Yes. Official framing and community clips treat mic and chat as aggro channels. Mute when hiding.

Does text chat count?

Yes. Treat typing like talking. Save callouts for push-to-talk voice or lobby planning.

Should streamers keep an open mic?

Only if you accept frequent deaths or route commentary outside Roblox voice. Clean clears need silence.

Is Story Mode safe to talk in?

Safer than Chase, but mute still prevents bad habits. Headphones on; mic off unless you are recording intentionally.

Will Episode 2 change hearing?

Unknown. Hearing is core identity—assume it stays until Fe & Zy say otherwise on Updates.
